With the Oscar nominees spread over multiple categories, it’s hard to say what might win, but these are the awards to try and isolate a victor from their selections.

AMERICAN CINEMA EDITORS AWARDS

Best Drama Editing

All Quiet on the Western Front (Peter, RU:Thomas)
Elvis (RU:Wesley)
Tรกr (RU:Peter)
Top Gun: Maverick (Wesley, Thomas)
The Woman King

Wesley Lovell: Action versus war? That’s a tough one. Top Gun: Maverick seems like a solid bet for this award because of its immense popularity and fast pace, but All Quiet could also do well. That said, Elvis will have its defenders and if the majority of voters split over Top Gun, then it could come out on top.
Peter J. Patrick: Top Gun: Maverick is the obvious choice, but it may be too obvious. The Eddies may think so, too, and go with the more complex All Quiet on the Western Front or the stunningly edited Tรกr.
Tripp Burton: No predictions provided.
Thomas LaTourette: Top Gun: Maverick would seem to have the upper hand, but All Quiet on the Western Front might outdo it as it seems to be doing better right now compared to Top Gun across all precursors.

Best Comedy/Musical Editing

The Banshees of Inisherin (Peter, RU:Thomas)
Everything Everywhere All at Once (Wesley, Thomas, RU:Peter)
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (RU:Wesley)
The Menu
Triangle of Sadness

Wesley Lovell: Everything probably has this one locked up, though I wouldn’t count out Glass Onion or The Banshees of Inisherin, the latter an Oscar nominee as well.
Peter J. Patrick: Should be The Banshees of Inisherin unless they want to jump on the bandwagon with everyone else and give it to Everything Everywhere All at Once.
Tripp Burton: No predictions provided.
Thomas LaTourette: Everything Everywhere All at Once should easily win this.

Best Animation Editing

The Bad Guys (Wesley)
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (Peter, Thomas)
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (RU:Peter)
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (RU:Wesley, RU:Thomas)

Wesley Lovell: This is another guild where I can see Pinocchio missing the list. The Bad Guys is a heist film and that means its heavily edited. Puss in Boots could also qualify, though most of its big action set pieces are in the latter half of the film. Pinocchio has some flashy editing, but I suspect it won’t be enough.
Peter J. Patrick: Is there any question but that this will go to either Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio or Marcel the Shell with Shoes On?
Tripp Burton: No predictions provided.
Thomas LaTourette: Pinocchio dominated at the Annies and will likely win this award. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish was basically the only film to best it in some categories there which could help its chances here.

Best Documentary Editing

All the Beauty and the Bloodshed (RU:Peter)
Fire of Love (RU:Thomas)
Good Night Oppy
Moonage Daydream (Thomas, RU:Wesley)
Navalny (Wesley, Peter)

Wesley Lovell: While Moonage Daydream is celebrated for its editing and I am tempted to pick it, Navalny seems to be barreling towards an Oscar win for Documentary Feature and that might be enough.
Peter J. Patrick: This should break down the way most of the year’s documentary awards have with Navalny or All the Beauty and the Bloodshed taking it.
Tripp Burton: No predictions provided.
Thomas LaTourette: This one is just a guess as I do not really know what they are looking for here.
