Look to the PGA to possibly signal some forthcoming Oscar selections. They’ll inform thoughts on Best Picture, Best Animated Feature, and Best Documentary Feature.

PRODUCERSE GUILD OF AMERICA AWARDS

Best Picture

Avatar: The Way of Water
The Banshees of Inisherin (Peter)
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Elvis
Everything Everywhere All at Once (Thomas, RU:Wesley, RU:Peter)
The Fabelmans
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery
Tรกr
Top Gun: Maverick (Wesley, RU:Thomas)
The Whale

Wesley Lovell: The PGA doesn’t always go for the Best Picture frontrunner and they won’t easily be able to ignore the success of Top Gun: Maverick. I predict a shocker here, but wouldn’t be surprised if Everything or Banshees won as well.
Peter J. Patrick: The PGA doesn’t always predict the Oscar, but they did the last two years with Nomadland and CODA. Could this be the third year in a row with either The Banshees of Inisherin or Everything Everywhere All at Once? I don’t see any of the other nominees topping these two with Banshees looking better in my crystal ball.
Tripp Burton: No predictions or commentary provided.
Thomas LaTourette: Even though it is not their type of film, I expect the PGA will go with the expected Everything Everywhere All at Once to win. It did decently at the box office and stayed in theaters for quite a while and garnered the most Oscar nominations of the year. It definitely has the most wins for best picture and that should continue. The one movie that might knock it out of the winning position is Top Gun: Maverick which was a juggernaut at the box office. That is something the PGA admires and has awarded in the past, but I think it will go to EEAAO.

Best Animated Feature

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio (Wesley, Peter, Thomas)
Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (RU:Peter)
Minions: The Rise of Gru
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (RU:Wesley, RU:Thomas)
Turning Red

Wesley Lovell: It’s difficult to imagine Pinocchio not winning, but Puss in Boots was a box office success, so I imagine it’s going to run pretty high with this group.
Peter J. Patrick: Like just about every other group, Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio should prevail with Marcel with Shoes On coming in a distant second.
Tripp Burton: No predictions or commentary provided.
Thomas LaTourette: Pinocchio has dominated the precursors and that will continue with the award from the PGA.

Best Documentary

All That Breathes (RU:Peter)
Descendant
Fire of Love (Thomas, RU:Wesley)
Navalny (Wesley, Peter, RU:Thomas)
Nothing Compares
Retrograde
The Territory

Wesley Lovell: Might as well go with the BAFTA winner here since none of the others seem like very strong competitors.
Peter J. Patrick: Seems like a contest between the two strongest contenders with Novalny slightly ahead of All That Breathes.
Tripp Burton: No predictions or commentary provided.
Thomas LaTourette: This is a hard one to predict as I never quite know how they are going to vote. Navalny is topical and that could sway them. Or it might go to the more friendly and more seen Fire of Love. I wonder if the Academy will go a different route, but I expect that Fire of Love may win.
