This year’s Documentary Short Subject finalists number 10, five of which will be nominated for the Oscar. Here’s the press release with the announced films:

10 DOC SHORTS ON OSCARโ€™S 2016 SHORTLIST

LOS ANGELES, CA โ€“ The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that the field of Documentary Short Subject contenders for the 89th Academy Awardsยฎ has been narrowed to 10 films, of which 5 will earn Oscarยฎ nominations.

Voters from the Academyโ€™s Documentary Branch viewed this yearโ€™s 61 eligible entries and submitted their ballots to PricewaterhouseCoopers for tabulation.

The 10 films are listed below in alphabetical order by title, with their production companies:

  • โ€œClose Ties,โ€ Munk Studio – Polish Filmmakers Association
  • โ€œExtremis,โ€ f/8 Filmworks in association with Motto Pictures
  • โ€œ4.1 Miles,โ€ University of California, Berkeley
  • โ€œFrame 394,โ€ Compy Films
  • โ€œJoeโ€™s Violin,โ€ Lucky Two Productions
  • โ€œThe Muteโ€™s House,โ€ The Jerusalem Sam Spiegel Film School
  • โ€œThe Other Side of Home,โ€ Feeln
  • โ€œWatani: My Homeland,โ€ ITN Productions
  • โ€œThe White Helmets,โ€ Grain Media and Violet Films

Nominations for the 89th Oscarsยฎ will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

The 89th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the Dolby Theatreยฎ at Hollywood & Highland Centerยฎ in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
