There aren’t a lot of non-Avengers options this weekend. Of what’s releasing, only one of them is likely to perform well at the box office. Overboard features Eugenio Derbez, who has been a decent draw at the box office, which could help make the film the top new release.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): The only reason this looks even remotely interesting is David Tennant and even that might not be enough. Peter J. Patrick (PP): A pleasant surprise – a new horror movie that looks half decent in the trailer. Tripp Burton (TB): This sounds like a great concept that is stuck in a not-so-great movie. Thomas LaTourette (TL): As much as I like David Tennant, I do not think I could be paid to see this film about a rich man who seems to delight in tormenting others.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): I vaguely remember seeing the original Kurt Russell-Goldie Hawn film back in the 1980s. I cannot recall liking it well enough to want to see a remake, especially starring these actors. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like an even crappier remake of a crappy film that itself was a remake of a crappy Italian comedy. Tripp Burton (TB): This looks very tired. Thomas LaTourette (TL): Even with a cute, hardworking cast, this remake looks to be pretty bad.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): As much as Jason Reitman has disappointed, there’s still something appealing about his latest. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like another winner for Charlize Theron and Jason Reitman. Tripp Burton (TB): This could be a real return to form for director Jason Reitman, whose last few films haven’t really been up to snuff. Thomas LaTourette (TL): It’s a strong creative team, but the trailer is slow and uninvolving. Some early reviews are good, so maybe one has to just see the full film.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks odd enough to be interesting, but also sounds like it could be rather cheap and predictable. Peter J. Patrick (PP): This is a delayed release of a two-year-old movie that looks like it should have stayed on the shelf. Tripp Burton (TB): It is nice getting to see Johnny Galecki stretch himself again, but the fact that this took two years to finally make it to theaters scares me a little. Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am not sure if this is trying for humor or horror, but it might be worth seeing.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer doesn’t do a very good job of selling the film. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Argentine road movie looks interesting if rather routine. Tripp Burton (TB): This looks sweet, but I’ll wait until I can catch it streaming for free. Thomas LaTourette (TL): It might show a corner of Argentina few of us know, or it just may meander to nothingness.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): While the story doesn’t quite pop at you from the trailer, there’s just enough in it to suggest a solid film. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Drama set on the home-front during World War I looks like another winner from the Of Gods and Men director. Tripp Burton (TB): This looks very powerful. Thomas LaTourette (TL): This study of life on a farm in France during World War I when the women have to do all the work because the men are at the front looks really interesting.
