Review: (#1, C+) An important moment from the trailer gets its own poster. Only with knowledge of the trailer or the film itself does it carry any weight and that won’t mean a lot to those who are already interested in the film.
Trailer Rating: B- / B+

Review: (#1, B-) Director Sian Heder managed to hit a zeitgeisty moment when CODA stormed the Oscars five years ago and with her big screen follow up, it’s clear her focus will be on disability representation on the big screen and that’s a laudable purpose but this trailer doesn’t do a lot to suggest the film will be another emotional hit. It looks to have a predictable through line but an affecting performance from star Lindsay Leese so it could defy expectations.
(#2, B+) Although I doubt the producers intended, there are moments in this film that remind one of The Trial of the Chicago 7. It might partly be the time period of the events or the pacing but they seem similar enough to beg comparison. That said, providing the audience with information that tells them what the film’s about and providing emotional investment will help this trailer appeal to a wider demographic. That said, this is also a movie about disabled rights and apart from the disabled and their ardent supporters, there’s not enough here to suggest broad audience interest.
Oscar Prospects:
Mark Ruffalo could be a contender but this film from CODA filmmaker Sian Heder looks like it might be too slight for the Oscars…but that seemed true of CODA too and see where that went.
