(Updated 6/23/10, 2:39p: Added Wes’ contribution) This week we have two new wide releases, a limited release and a New York/Los Angeles-only release. Grown Ups and Knight and Day duke it out for the weekend crown, but will likely come in under the second week of Toy Story 3. Stranger things have happened, though. The other two releases are war documentary Restrepo (limited) and Wild Grass (NY/LA).

Consensus

We agree 100% on the following:
Grown Ups: We won’t be watching this film and it’s not an Oscar contender.
Knight and Day: Not an Oscar contender.
Restrepo: This is a Minor Oscar contender (for Documentary Feature).

I dislike everyone in the cast and some I even detest as actors (if you can call them that). The premise is ridiculous and the one funny pool scene in the trailer is funny the first time, dumb the second and annoying every time after that.

Thoughts

Looks pretty lame.

Thoughts

Looks painfully unfunny in every way.

Thoughts

It’s a typical Adam Sandler comedy, meaning that it will receive terrible reviews, gross $100 million at the box-office, and then quickly fade from public consciousness.

This is another one of those films I want to see, but don’t really. Cruise and Diaz seem perfectly suited to each other and some of the elements of the trailer are interesting, but after seeing the trailer so many times, it doesn’t look that good anymore.

Thoughts

Early reviews confirm my worst fears – this is awful.

Thoughts

Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz are both on bad career backslide, and this combination looks hideous.

Thoughts

It looks like somebody remade “Mission: Impossible” as an action/comedy. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz look like they have zero chemistry too.

I like The Hurt Locker well enough, but this is the kind of documentary that tells you what it’s actually like to be there, not what filmmakers think it’s like.

Thoughts

Although a documentary, it is similar in approach to last year’s Best Picture winner, The Hurt Locker. Could be a documentary feature contender but it’s too soon to tell.

Thoughts

Could be an interesting Documentary nominee.

Thoughts

It looks like a pretty emotional and powerful film. It’s probably a shoo-in for a Best Documentary Feature nomination.

The trailer doesn’t make me want to watch the film, but it did get good notices. I doubt I’ll see it.

Thoughts

Alan Resnais films are nothing to sneeze at, and this did win the Cesar (French Oscar) for Best Picture, but foreign films tend to receive limited distribution in the U.S. so who knows when I will have the chance to it.

Thoughts

An Alain Resnais film is always worth checking out, but probably not at the top of my list.

Thoughts

Zzzzzzzzzz.
