We’re nearly at the Oscars. Will there be something memorable this year? Perhaps nothing as memorable as what we’re discussing here, but we can always hope (or fear in the case of Peter’s selection). Below, we discuss our favorite Oscar moments, with honorary Oscars, memorable arrivals and new trends.

Peter J. Patrick

1989, 62nd Academy Awards

Rob Lowe and Snow White make asses of themselves during a song and dance number in a nightclub setting attended by Roy Rogers, Dale Evans , Dorothy Lamour and various other stars from Hollywood’s past.

Tripp Burton

1996, 69th Academy Awards

There isn’t much to say here…if you saw it, you won’t forget it.

Wesley Lovell

2008, 81st Academy Awards

The long-held tradition in presenting the acting awards at the Oscars has been to have the winner of the opposing category present the next year’s trophy. (Best Supporting Actress present Best Supporting Actor and vice versa; and the same for the lead awards) This year, a new innovation was introduced and it was a very welcome and inspirational change. Showrunners Bill Condon and Laurence Mark shifted things around, allowing 2007’s winner Tilda Swinton to present the 2008 Supporting Actress award along with four other winners of the category. The result is magical and is a tradition I hope will stay around for some time to come.
