From refusals to ties to Honorary Oscars. They are the moments we remember because of what they meant to us. Whether they made us laugh, cry or scratch our heads, they are our favorites.

Tripp Burton

1970, 43rd Academy Awards

It is a moment that still baffles me, that the Academy gave the Oscar to a man who said over and over he didn’t want it, but no one was more surprised than the presenter herself.

Peter J. Patrick

1968, 41st Academy Awards

Ten friends of Oscar did all the work this year, including singing the nominated songs. Ingrid Bergman is a gas tripping over the lyrics to “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” and later exhibits true astonishment when she opens the envelope for Best Actress and exclaims “it’s a tie!”

The beginning of the video shows the tie declaration.

Wesley Lovell

2003, 76th Academy Awards

Perfectly capturing the zany spirit of Blake Edwards, his staged wheelchair malfunction at the Oscars provides one the most amusing pre-acceptance speech presentations for an Honorary Oscar I’ve seen. Jim Carrey hams it up a bit much, but Edwards is endearing enough to make up for it.
