Only three people voted this week creating a very tight race for number one. Not faring well with these voters, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof starts our list in the eighth position with a small 7 points. Two points higher in seventh place was The Night of the Iguana. Number six barely cracked double digits with 10 points, Anatomy of a Murder With 13 points in fifth place we have Suddenly, Last Summer followed closely by Seven Days in May with 14 points landing at number four. Tied for second place with 18 points each were The Defiant Ones and The Dirty Dozen. Which left Inherit the Wind for the top spot with one point higher finishing with 19. Inherit the Wind wins and goes into my queue.

Here’s the deal: every week, I will be calling for suggestions of films to be added to my Netflix queue. Each person makes one suggestion and one alternate (in case I have seen one of your suggestions). The next week, when I call for new suggestions, we begin a one-week voting period to select the film to be placed immediately into my Netflix queue to be reviewed the weekend after (because I’ll already have my Netflix queue selections for the coming weekend). Then, you’ll find out what I thought in my weekly Morning After feature on Monday morning.

Sometimes a genre gets stuck in the rotation and it makes for a rough viewing schedule. Starting this week, I’m going to be asking for suggestions that fit a specific genre so each week can be a bit spicy. The genre or event listed each week will be posted at the end of this post.

To help decide what to pick, here is a list of what I’ve seen (or at least that I have personally logged).

Here’s a question. If Apocalypse Now is selected. Is Apocalypse Now Redux an appropriate version to watch (or is that even a version of the film?)

  I would try to get a copy of the Full Disclosure Blu-ray and watch the Theatrical version. Then I’d watch the documentary Hearts of Darkness: A Filmaker’s Apocalypse (disc 3). You could then watch Apocalypse Redux, but in truth I didn’t think it was an improvement at all.
  
  Excellent pick, Mike, I completely missed it, although The Elephant Man was on my short list.

    I actually thought Redux made it worse; it added a lot to the running time, without enhancing the narrative. Stick with the original version.

This week Wes, there seems to be many Best Picture nominees from 1978 through 1987 that you haven’t seen (and this doesn’t even consider the non-best picture nominees). I’m having a hard time selecting only two.

I missed this last week but had I voted Inherit the Wind would have been my overwhelming choice. This week it is the criminally underrated Lovers and Other Strangers. Hope to do a full rankiewhen I get to a real computer. Smart phones are great, but they have their limitations.
