Review: (#1) If you remember Chicken Run, this might have some appeal, but it looks a bit cheap and low effort, which might not enthuse. (#2-#10) These character posters are dull and shockingly lifeless. While it’s interesting to note that the spotlight is in an egg shape, that’s the most compelling thing about them, which just isn’t enough.

(#11) While the chickens themselves are varied, they look a bit too similar throughout, which makes the spacing a bit too structured. Sure, there’s a Where’s Waldo vibe with finding one of the characters, it’s not sufficient to bolster the poster’s lackluster elements.

Trailer Rating: C+ / B

Review: (#1) With only a single good laugh in the entire trailer, it’s impossible to take this long-gestating sequel too seriously. The animation looks on par with the original, but a lot of the Aardman spark seems to be missing.

(#2) The plot doesn’t get more fleshed out, which the viewer can be thankful for. Some of the jokes are a little bit funnier, but the action helps bridge the gap between familiarity and novelty.

Oscar Prospects:

An unexpected Animated Feature contender. Its release wasn’t certain, but it could be one of the few nominees to make it through.
