Review: (#1-#9, C) Starting with character posters isn’t an awful idea but doing so with incredibly ugly, minimally detailed designs is.

(#10, C+) Looking like the kind of a design that might grace the cover of a novel, this poster doesn’t have a lot of details but feels stylistically fitting to the series and appeals more than the prior efforts have.

Review: (#1, B) Starting out of the gate with a full, final trailer is a bold move these days. It risks people getting fed up with seeing the same preview over and over again. It generates some measure of excitement from fans who would probably turn out regardless but it won’t win many converts.

(#2, B-) The epic feel of the first trailer is present and that will engage die hard fans of the series but other than snippets of information about the film, it is still difficult for those not familiar with the book to understand what’s going on. Even for fans/readers of the book, the plot is amorphous and ill-presented, making this trailer feel unnecessary.

Oscar Prospects:

There may be a case of diminishing returns with this series but it should still score a ton of craft nominations.
