Review: (#1, C) Previous attempts to sell films starring disgraced Johnny Depp have avoided his name. This one is trying to put that up front and they hope it will work. Will his fanbase turn out for the film? They haven’t for anything he’s put out in almost a decade but this design isn’t going to cut it. It’s subtle to the point of avoiding his face almost entirely and forcing a domination of the design to a black background, which almost makes this look like a design for a trashy horror film and that certainly won’t sell to his fans.

Review: (#1, C+) After years avoiding Johnny Depp’s name in previews, this trailer goes to great length to reference his name hoping that the memory of his messy trial with Amber Heard will have faded enough for him to become a box office king again. The problem is that reminding audiences of his great roles (Jack Sparrow, Edward Scissorhands, and others) without providing more than sparse details about this Christmas Carol deviation won’t necessary build the kind of interest audiences will need to give him the hit he so vainly desires.

Oscar Prospects:

If it’s popular enough, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup & Hairstyling are possible. They are even if unsuccessful but its chances diminish in everything but Makeup & Hairstyling.
