Review: (#1-#2, C) Although these two designs are slightly different in terms of framing, they share a similar concept, the hand around a screaming woman’s throat, four mysterious figures in the background, an over use of warm colors, including the overused red title and the needs-to-be-retired floating ember concept. It’s rather amazing that the poster work is so milquetoast while the trailer game is on fire.
Trailer Rating: B / A-

Review: (#1, B) Films that feature a single scene from a film typically aren’t the most engaging or interesting but something about this one, the constant threat of danger, the chaos in various segments of the frame and the suggestion of violence all make this a rather captivating effort. How it ties into the Evil Dead series isn’t obvious.
(#2, A-) With that stellar scene from the first trailer, it was going to be difficult to improve upon and not go down a familiar rabbit hole with the second trailer, but they have not only managed to succeed on both accounts, they’ve managed to create one of the best horror film trailers in a very long time. Riveting from nearly start to finish with a couple of minor eye-rolling moments, there’s an obvious attempt here to subvert expectations and present a horror film that seems like both a fitting continuation of the series and bold ideological shift forward for the genre.
Oscar Prospects:
None.
