Review: (#1) The giant lettering is oppressive and the enamored figures (one with the other, the other with the screen) are thematically fine, but it’s a confusing choice. (#2) The dog from the first design is a bit closer while the gist carries over to something with a less annoying font. It still doesn’t do much. (#3) While the first two established the nuance between characters, this one doesn’t and the exaggerated lighting in the background, while fitting to the trailer, won’t come across well to viewers on the street.

Review: There’s a stagey quality to the trailer that may underpin the film’s theme. That surface-level feeling makes it difficult to identify with the character on screen and the lack of active through line makes it difficult to find something exciting to latch onto.

Oscar Prospects:

Aki Kaurismรคki, while well regarded as a director, has never come close to an Oscar nomination. This film has been submitted by Finland for the International Feature award, but there’s a lot of stiff competition coming into that category this year and I just don’t see this one making it.
