Review: (#1, C-) A harsh blend of colors, a three-quarter shot of the film’s central figure, and the lack of detail serve to make this a rather uninspired and ugly design.

(#2, C) Not much of an improvement over the prior, but it does help identify Adam Driver and his character’s car concept in the back. Neither of which add enough of interest with a title that would seem more fitting to a horror poster than a biopic.

Trailer Rating: C / C

Review: (#1, C) There’s an obliqueness to the trailer that wants to make it seem like a biographical thriller, but the success of that lies in the tepid racing segments, which feel overwrought rather than exciting. It’s the kind of film modern audiences aren’t likely to latch onto with a trailer like this.

(#2, C) The attempt to make this racing-adjacent drama appealing hasn’t quite worked out in two trailer releases. The excitement of the race track is juxtaposed with the explosive relationship between Ferrari and his wife, which doesn’t really give the audience any sort of excitement to watch the biopic.

Oscar Prospects:

Michael Mann is one of those filmmakers who has never gotten the full respect of the Academy in terms of nominations, but this got enough early buzz that it could be something of a contender.
