Review: (#1, C+) A suitable starting design that tackles the friendship angle and the magic element but will successfully tease only those already familiar with the first trailer. (#2, B-) A better evocation of the film’s premise though the lack of details in the background and foreground make it slightly underwhelming.

(#3, C+) Colorful and stylized, there’s not enough here to generate excitement in younger viewers. The images are more reminiscent of those in the 1990s and perhaps that’s to entice the parents to come along? Either way, not as effective as the prior.

Trailer Rating: B+ / B

Review: (#1, B+) It’s a bit surprising that DreamWorks is much better at its advertising game than Disney/Pixar. These fantastical female buddy movie looks fun, colorful, engaging, and thought-provoking. It should easily appeal to the target demographic.

(#2, B) The first trailer was probably the best the studio will ever generate for this film simply because they gave us enough details to make it seem exciting but this one only makes it look less interesting. The new character is hyperactive and frequently annoying, which only makes it a little less accessible.

Oscar Prospects:

An original from DreamWorks is sure to earn an Oscar nomination and depending on how good the Disney/Pixar entries are, it could also contend for a win.
