Review: (#1, C+) Taking the frozen motif and applying it to the classic logo is a nice tease, but an uninspired design. (#2, B) The same motif applied to a dull poster with too little color, albeit color that accentuates the necessary characters. The subtlety of the “old Ghostbusters” in the background doesn’t do work. (#3, B) There’s a little more color definition, not as washed out as the prior design, but the ice-spike accents look a bit cheesy and ill-fitting, especially in the background. (#4, B+) This isn’t far removed from the second design, but taking the inspiration of the second and how it uses color, this bolsters the colors much better while giving definition to the background. It’s still lacking feels a little creatively bankrupt, but much better than the prior two designs.

(#5-#6, B-) This pair of designs are too similar to consider separately as they have the same general content with the old Ghostbusters making a return, which might excite some rather than others. (#7, B) This has a more striking balance than the prior and feels less generic, though it doesn’t have as many interesting details. (#8, C) While it’s nice to appreciate the humor, this is a rather dully funny effort with too much empty space. (#9, C) It might have some effective being creepy but it’s otherwise uninspired. (#10, B-) Similar to the prior all-hands-on-deck design, this reduces the number of actors on screen, eliminating some you might be interested in seeing. (#11-#12, C) This pair of humorous designs, like the prior, aren’t terribly fun. (#13, C+) Another set of familiar characters and a backdrop that seems overwhelmed by its shocking emptiness. (#14, B-) Not too different from the prior design with the lion in the background.

Trailer Rating: B+ / B+ / C

Review: (#1, B+) Showing viewers the three surviving Ghostbusters is a strong effort, but even without, the setup and stakes are well established and the overall effort feels a lot more compelling than the previews for the prior film.

(#2, B+) The first trailer presented most of the same information and characters, but this one does fine presenting a few more bits of information while highlighting an active role for four of the original film’s cast members, which will go a long way to setting this film up to be one of the major films of the Spring.

(#3, C) Seemingly ticking off boxes without doing much new or interesting, this trailer fails to excite or enthrall the way the prior efforts did. A colossal pre-release misfire.

Oscar Prospects:

It could be a contender in Best Visual Effects, but even that’s iffy.
