Review: Sure, it’s a relatively simple design, but visually, it’s rather stunning. The background is gorgeous and the arrayed characters tell the audience exactly who they are expecting to see even all of them aren’t immediately recognizable, which adds a bit of suspense.

(#2) The mixture of colors is solid, but the foreground images are rather dull with few of them making actual sense. If you’re already a fan, it will work. (#3) This hand-drawn effort doesn’t mesh well and some of the figures feel out of proportion and look a little too incompatible with the characters. (#4) Sticking with the yellow-purple-blue color scheme, this effort tries a galactic motif in the uniforms that doesn’t work. (#5-#13) These character posters carry over the motif of the other designs, but don’t tell us anything new or fresh about the characters while some of the figures barely look anything like their filmic versions. (#14-#17) This quartet of film/sound format designs don’t add anything fresh to the prior designs and don’t individually stand out enough for separate highlighting.

Trailer Rating: B- / C+

Review: (#1) As the first trailer, it’s surprising that we got so much information about the film and its plot. A lot of the locales look interesting, though the humor seems a bit more uninspired than it normally does.

(#2) A bombastic effort that fans of the series won’t need in order to get excited for the film, but it’s rather interesting how few trailers have been created for this film and how tepid some elements of the marketing campaign have been, this trailer included.

Oscar Prospects:

The first film scored two nominations, the latter earned one. Trend lines point downwards, but a Visual Effects nomination (which both films received) is still the only really safe better for this film.
