Review: (#1, C) It’s possible you could draw a line between the current trend of nearly empty poster designs back to the earliest works for the Minions franchise but that doesn’t make this design more appealing. Fans of the minions will turn out regardless, adding in a tentacled monster won’t generate new interest.

(#2-#4, C+) These designs are all relatively similar and each focus on one of the film’s monsters without being too obvious about it. The usable space looks empty despite not being entirely so, which makes them look rather simplistic.

(#5, B-) It’s nice to see posters in colors other than yellow, so this one gets some bonus points but the terrifying bunny monster might not excite enough. (#6, C+) Back to the yellow and the lack of excitement. This sea monster might play well in Asia but it’s not going to generate much anticipation. (#7, C+) The yellow is gone but the empty white background is aggressive and while there’s some action to be had in this design, it feels inconsequential. (#8-#9, C) A pair of bland character posters that you can probably ignore even if they tie better into the film than some prior designs.

Review: (#1, C) With the minions movies, you cannot expect anything but sheer lunacy and that’s certainly what you get from this trailer but apart from the killer bunny moment, it feels like a dull retread of every minions film before it. Existing fans will turn out for anything but this isn’t likely to generate new fans.

(#2, B-) The trailer plays like an extended scene from the film even though it isn’t. There is one bit of humor that lands and the rest is agonizingly dull. For fans of the tiny yellow pill-shaped incompetents, it won’t really matter that the film doesn’t look that fun. For everyone else, including those with lukewarm opinions of the prior film, there’s nothing here to excite them.
