Review: (#1, C) A field of wild wheat and two figures who blend into the setting with little to no color. It relies too heavily on its title to create interest. (#2, C+) This effort has a little more effort and a little more color but still feels rather dull. Meanwhile the motion effect on the figures is muddled by the more distinct facial elements that make it look like some tepid tampering has been done.

(#3, C) The period hairstyle is the only element that really stands out well in this poster, which has a dull white-yellow color palette that feels underwhelming and dull. (#4, C+) The attempt to try something different from the prior designs sets this one apart but not well enough. Perhaps the title will be all the audience needs to decide to see the film. Unfortunately, the content lacks the excitement or engaging romantic emotion that conveys a sense of its own purpose.

(#4, C) The studio wants to sell this as a romance and while putting a somewhat sultry pose on the poster might convey that, it’s artistically underwhelming.

Trailer Rating: C+ / B-

Review: (#1, C+) If the in-your-face style of Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights didn’t do it for you, this more subdued neophyte director-helmed rendition of Jane Austen’s seminal novel might be up your alley. Unfortunately, the trailer is light on repressed sexuality and romantic emotionalism. That might not bolster its popularity.

(#2, B-) Fans of the literary classic are likely to watch the movie with or without a trailer leaving this preview trying to build an expanded audience. Unfortunately, there’s minimal suggestion of romantic drama, the color palette is shockingly dull, and the performances don’t stand out enough.

Oscar Prospects:

The material has been nominated before but with an untested director, who knows for sure. It could still be or it might be ignored.
