Review: (#1) It’s a simplistic, cheap design that didn’t require a lot of effort even if it effectively captures the film’s plot.

(#2) It’s creepy for sure, but lacks creative detail. It also feels a bit too “perfect” for being a creepy basement image.

(#3-#6) This quartet of posters are different, but present the same thrust and could be considered character posters of a sort. None of them speak volumes about the film, but they have a solid workmanship quality. (#7) An intriguing drawing that is reminiscent of kids’ artwork depicting scary situations. In that regard, it works, but otherwise it’s just too much red and black to be anything but predictable.

Trailer Rating: C+ / B

Review: (#1) In terms of tension, this trailer exhibits quite a bit of it. The early scene searching under the bed is played well with no musical cues to get in the way of the viewer’s terror, but it then settles into an overly familiar rhythm and does very little to present a cohesive plot.

(#2) Conventional was the best way to describe the first trailer, but in tinkering with the ordering of images and revelation of plot details, this second effort does a much better job of frightening the audience will be key in improving its chances of success.

Oscar Prospects:

None.
