Review: (#1, C+) It’s an odd choice of references to the film, the scene in the trailer where part of the landscape is ripped away into a chasm might have been more emblematic but the suggestive footprints and dirt tracks is interesting but doesn’t quite excite.

(#2, C+) Too much empty space, fogged to create a shroud of mystery. The cornered family may tell the story of the film but it doesn’t generally excite.

(#3-#7, C+) These character posters give a hint to the film’s details and that helps sell the story but they are so minimal in their detail that they feel incomplete. (#8, C) A derivation of the prior design without much excitement. (#9, C+) A decent attempt to give the audience an impression of the setting and concept but with insufficient details otherwise. (#10, C) The setup to an action moment in the film does have a bit of tension but is pointlessly simplistic. (#11, C+) With the hazy smoke effect creation visual tension in the image, it takes the suspense of the film and brings it to the viewer with modestly underwhelming effect.

Review: (#1, B-) There are ways to create tension in trailers that don’t involve slow reveals and elongated dialogue. This feels like a film that could be quite clever and uniquely interesting but which feels underwhelming and pretentious.

(#2, B) All the mystery of the prior trailer is gone though certain things make more sense. Ratcheting up the tension and suggesting a minor gore factor will help sell the film a little better though the mystery box trope will not save the film’s box office chances, nor will referencing JJ Abrams’ involvement.

(#3, B) The pretense of suspense has officially flown out the window and this trailer wants to sell it as little more than a dinosaur-centric actioner. While that will have some appeal to audiences, it denies the film the uniqueness that the first trailer set up.

Oscar Prospects:

It has a pretty stellar cast and could be a surprise contender…if it weren’t an August release, which is notoriously bad positioning for Oscar contenders.
