Review: (#1, B-) This watercolor design is visually striking even with its minimal color scheme. It doesn’t say much about the film that the title doesn’t already but it’s a solid design. (#2, C+) Preparing the audience to pick out their favorite actor would work better if there were genuine buzz for the film. It’s rudimentary at best. (#3, C+) A simple, elegant symbolic statement about the film’s dangerous elements. The background is underwhelming and the simplicity is easy to overlook after a beat. (#4, C) One samurai amongst many has no thematic resonance for this film’s premise. (#5, C) This one stands in stark contrast to the prior efforts, making this seem more like an action-heavy samurai film and that’s not the impression the trailer gives.

Review: (#1, C+) with elements reminiscent of Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon, this drama is based on a different novel and from a different, unrelated Kurosawa (Kiyoshi). What the trailer presents is a rather tepid murder mystery that limits its spiritual influence and seldom finds a way to create excitement or energy. That will limits its broad support from audiences.
