Review: (#1, B) For a teaser design, it’s all right. It reminds the viewers of the main characters from the first and second film and introduces the smirking villain of the fifth. Not much to see but sufficient for a teaser.

(#2, B+) From a thematic perspective, this design doesn’t quite work. In the film, it seems that the toys are being replaced by the Leap Frog clone but here they are included together on their way to school. It’s a clever concept to include all of the characters but apart from the looks of wariness and disgust, the thematic cohesion is underwhelming. (#3, B-) Similar to the prior design in how it approaches the characters of the story, re-setting itself into the child’s room fits thematically but by doing so, it also mutes some of the impact of the toys’ positions.

(#4, B-) Not all of the characters but enough to get the cast of familiar figures across. It even introduces more characters than the trailer identifies in detail, which does create some intrigue for what’s to come. (#5, C+) Disney and Pixar’s poster designs of recent vintage have gone more simplistic instead of detailed, so it’s a nice surprise to a format-specific poster not take that minimalist route. Too bad this looks pretty mediocre as structured. (#6, C+) Like the prior two, the gang’s mostly all here but in different spaces and none of them seem like they are given anything interesting to do. (#7-#9, C) These character posters avoid a more intriguing concept, that of a wild west duel. They suffer even more from the lack of background. (#10, C+) A solid IMAX design that pits characters against one another in something of a tug of war, though the dichotomy between the characters as presented in earlier designs and those depicted here adds some measure of confusion. (#11, B) Sure, it’s not as abundant in its character details as the prior designs but the hand-drawn feel makes the effort more visually distinctive and gives it a sense of creative energy lacking in its formulaic predecessors. (#12-#14, C) More of these empty white backgrounds. The tendency towards simplicity and emptiness has been one of the least interesting poster design trends of the last decade. (#15, C+) An attempt to do something more exciting and action-oriented, it’s difficult not to see this as perhaps a spoiler for an adventurous conclusion. (#16, C+) It’s not often these designs include a human component but the effort to tie everything back to the film’s premise is an admirable one.

Review: (#1, C) For a teaser to what will likely be one of the biggest animated films of 2026, this one gives out enough details to intrigue the viewer. Unfortunately, the endless parade of characters from across the series’ length doesn’t do much but drag the entire preview beyond tedium.

(#2, B) Getting more into the details of the plot certainly helps make the struggle look more interesting, especially when it addresses the retirement of one of its characters in the prior film. Although this carries a lot of the cuteness and general appeal, it looks reminiscent of all of the recent past struggles these characters have been through and doesn’t promise much that gives everything a unique spin.

(#3, B-) The tendency of final trailers to give away most of the film’s storyline is a disappointing one and while there are some nice moments in this preview, it almost feels like there’s too much here to ensure the film remains relevant.

Oscar Prospects:

Each film in this series, bar the first two, has been an Oscar contender, so I have no doubt it will be in the competition.
