Review: (#1, B-) The painful angle the central figure contorts at tells the viewer far more about the film than anything. There is too much empty space and the rising moon seems unrealistically placed.

Trailer Rating: C+ / B-

Review: (#1, C+) After briefly toying with a mainstream shift, Robert Eggers retreats to his familiar preternatural horror. It may suggest a return to form or an understanding that his tastes aren’t for mainstream consumption and deciding not to care. Whatever the reason, fans of Eggers will remain fans while modern audiences will likely remain underwhelmed.

(#2, B-) Fans of Robert Eggers’ aesthetic will immediately catch his style oozing from every frame. The dingy realism and the suggestion of horrific moments builds some measure of suspense. Unfortunately, those looking for a traditional werewolf-based horror film aren’t likely to find the dinginess of the setting terribly appealing and will result an expectedly niche audience.
