The week’s top new release was perennially dependable Liam Neeson whose The Grey pulled in just south of $20 million. The other new releases didn’t do very well with Man on a Wire being a big disappointment. In expanding territory, The Descendants got the biggest bounce, but The Artist edged it out on the per screen measure.

I’m torn on the #1 movie. I think The Woman in Black looks better, plus I’m sure legions of Radcliffe fans will flock to see him. But I think Chronicle’s marketing has been just intriguing enough to give it the edge, plus the reviews for it have been pretty good.
