One major new wide release this week, one minor one. Toy Story 3 is undoubtedly going to dominate the weekend and Jonah Hex is going to struggle to make much in its wake. I Am Love and Cyrus are this week’s limited releases.

Consensus

We agree 100% on the following:
Toy Story 3: It’s both a Must See and a Major Oscar contender.

Our first guaranteed Oscar contender of the year. It’s Pixar, of course it will compete. While I’m not as excited about the Toy Story franchise as other Pixar endeavors, I at least know it will be higher quality entertainment than I’ve seen most of the rest of this year. I’m hoping for quality on par with Toy Story 2, not the original.

Thoughts

I’m not big on animated films but I really liked the first two so I am actually looking forward to this one although I may l wait for the DVD. Should be a huge hit and early front-runner for Best Animated Feature.

Thoughts

Any Pixar film is a must see, but Toy Story is already one of the great one-two punches in film history. Hopefully the third one will be just as excellent.

Thoughts

I’ll see anything made by Pixar and I am particularly excited about the third entry in the “Toy Story” franchise. With Pixar, you know you’re getting a quality film and seeing how the last two years have yielded my two favorite Pixar films, I’m sure that the streak will continue. I wouldn’t be surprised to see it find its way into both the Best Picture and Best Animated Feature race.

Being buried against Toy Story 3 does not make me expect much from this show. The trailer looks awful and I’ve heard no positive buzz about it. So, I’ll probably end up skipping it.

Thoughts

Another comic book adaptation, albeit one with an interesting cast could be interesting.

Thoughts

Josh Brolin’s makeup is the only good-looking part of this film.

Thoughts

Who at DC thought it would be a good idea to make a Jonah Hex movie before developing franchises for A-list characters like Green Lantern, the Flash, or Wonder Woman?

The trailer looks terrible, but Tilda Swinton is an amazing talent and is the only reason really to see this film.

Thoughts

Tilda Swinton is always interesting to watch and she produced this one as well, so it’s probably something worth checking out.

Thoughts

Could be great, could be horrible, I can’t tell from the trailer.

Thoughts

I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tilda Swinton nominated in the Best Actress category.

Thoughts

It could be good, it could be terrible. The trailer makes me lean towards the good descriptor, but Jonah Hill and John C. Reilly lean me towards terrible.

Thoughts

Seems like we’ve been hearing about this one for a while now. It doesn’t sound like anything I would rush to see.

Thoughts

This looks unfunny and annoying, but the good word of mouth may make me catch up with it down the road.

Thoughts

I’ve heard good things about this off-beat comedy. It might be this year’s “Lars and the Real Girl” and pick up a nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The critics have also singled out Jonah Hill, so there’s a chance that he could sneak into the Best Supporting Actor race.
