Two wide releases get the Looking at the Weekend treatment this week as does a film opening in New York and Los Angeles this weekend.

Consensus

We agree 100% on the following:
MacGruber: This is not an Oscar contender
Holy Rollers: This is not an Oscar contender

I was not as apathetic towards Shrek 2 as many others were, though the third installment wasn’t that great. I’m not certain how I’ll feel about this one, but we will see it nevertheless.

Thoughts

The first Shrek was mildly entertaining, the second labored, the third annoying. The fourth? Zzzzzzzzzz.

Thoughts

I loved the first Shrek when I first saw it in the theater, but have never had any interest in any of the sequels.

Thoughts

I have really come to hate the “Shrek” series ever since “Shrek 2,” and opted not to watch “Shrek the Third.” I’m pretty much done with the franchise, and even the fact that this is (supposedly) the final installment doesn’t pique my interest whatsoever. It could be nominated for Best Animated Feature, but it probably won’t be as they didn’t nominate “Shrek the Third,” which achieved similar reviews as this picture. It probably doesn’t matter one bit to the filmmakers, however, since it will probably be a huge box-office success like the previous entries.

I don’t really care if this is the second coming or not (reports that it’s the best since Blues Brothers), I haven’t seen a good adaptation of an SNL skit and this one, though it has a few funny moments, is not that appealing to me.

Thoughts

An extended Saturday Night Live spoof of McGiver is not something I’m anxious to see.

Thoughts

I don’t find the SNL shorts that funny, so I doubt the feature will be amusing at all.

Thoughts

Early reviews indicate that this is probably the best SNL adaptation since “The Blues Brothers,” but I’ll wait and see it on DVD. It looks funny, though.

Thoughts

I have no desire to see this film, it looks like a cheap gimmick and one that attempts to be funny, but doesn’t succeed. If it turns out to be well received or an Oscar contender, I may pick it up later in the year, but at this point I doubt it.

Thoughts

Could be entertaining. Jesse Eisenberg is one of the most interesting young actors working today.

Thoughts

It has an interesting enough premise that good reviews might prompt me to watch it on Netflix, but I am not rushing out to it.

Thoughts

The premise is intriguing, but I’ll probably wait for it to come out on DVD.
