Can a big budget summer-like blockbuster really draw audiences back to the theater when they’ve been so far reticent? We shall see, though the Wednesday opening might temper weekend expectations.

Wesley Lovell (WL): As much as I like disaster films, monster movies haven’t always held my interest and this looks like more of the same and even less of interest. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Said to have a better storyline than most films of its type; the visual effects seem as realistic as they could be. Thomas LaTourette (TL): I have not been overwhelmed at the previous Godzilla films, though perhaps this will be over the top enough to make it enjoyable.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): Looks to be a predictable horror film. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Based on a classic gothic horror novel, this one looks better than most of its ilk. Thomas LaTourette (TL): Interesting film for an Easter release. A young girl is supposedly visited by the Virgin Mary or maybe something more sinister, though the trailer was not that spooky.

Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer was forgettable and the premise doesn’t sound terribly interesting. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Well-cast psychological thriller looks like it might be one of the better ones of its type. Thomas LaTourette (TL): At first it looked like an interesting if overdone psychological thriller, but by the end it felt like the movie was sliding into needless violence.

Wesley Lovell (WL): This British comedy doesn’t look at all funny. Peter J. Patrick (PP): British farce looks a bit tepid despite its strong cast. Thomas LaTourette (TL): I think it wants to be a farce and the basic idea is funny, but the trailer was not very good, though I am willing to see what this cast can do.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): I’m intrigued to see what this film is about as the trailer does a terrible job conveying it. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Frenetic comedy seems to be trying too hard to be funny. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer has few laughs, but the critics love it, so perhaps this will be worth catching after all.
