There are only two new releases this week, both both of them are bound to ignite the box office.
Consensus
Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.
Rio: It’s a mixed bag for our contributors, split evenly in their opinions about the film (33%), but we agree that it’s a minor contender for Best Animated Feature (100%). Scream 4: One of the few horror films that have piqued the interests of all of our members (100%), yet we know that the Academy isn’t going to favor it (100%). The Conspirator: We’re all planning to see it at some point (100%) and think if it’s as good as it has potential for it may be a bit of an Oscar contender (100%).
While I’m sure continuing the saga will probably diminish the overall quality of the franchise, the first film was spectacular, the second was pretty good and the third wasn’t bad, so it should be worth a few giggles and screams.
Thoughts
I enjoyed the first three films in the franchise, even the lame third one, so I’ll probably see this at some point, though it may hvae to wait for DVD.
Thoughts
I love Wes Craven’s original trilogy, and while I am interested in seeing what he and Kevin Williamson have ready for this film, I am also a little skeptical.
I don’t know that I’ll catch it on the big screen, but the premise seems interesting and there’s a solid cast, but Reford’s late-life career has been spotty at best.
Thoughts
I’m not sure of the film’s Oscar chances as it was supposed to have been released during last Oscar season and was pushed back, never a good sign, but I love conspiracy movies, especially ones about Lincoln.
Thoughts
A great director and strong cast make this interesting looking film a much anticipated film.
