After a lackluster debut for Wish, Godzilla Minus One should have a fairly easy route to the number one spot, though it must face off against the unusually strong Napoleon and The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Still, those films are running into their own headwinds and audiences are wanting more action these days than pure drama, so Godzilla has a solid shot at the top.

WIDE RELEASES

GODZILLA MINUS ONE

SILENT NIGHT

Godzilla Minus One

Wesley Lovell: I’m not a fan of the Godzilla franchise and this one doesn’t look to entice me.

Peter J. Patrick: With its impressive trailer and 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, this is the first Godzilla movie that I am actually looking forward to seeing.

Thomas La Tourrette: It looks like a good Godzilla movie.

Silent Night

Wesley Lovell: It looks failry generic, but there is some originality to the premise and I do somewhat like Joel Kinnaman.

Peter J. Patrick: John Woo’s first Hollywood film in twenty years doesn’t look all that impressive.

Thomas La Tourrette: A revenge fantasy with an added twist, but it looks too violent for my tastes.

LIMITED RELEASES

EILEEN

EVERYONE WILL BURN

HOW I LEARNED TO FLY

THE SWEET EAST

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: Not a lot on offer this week, but the cast makes Eileen look passable.

Peter J. Patrick: Only Eileen looks like it may be worth a look.

Thomas La Tourrette: None of them leap out at me, but any of them might prove worth seeing.
