This week, we have the battle of the genre flicks with horror film The Roommate trying to keep underwater escape thriller Sanctum down.

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

The Roommate: We won’t be watching (100%) and don’t even think about Oscar consideration (100%).
Sanctum: Not watching it (67%) nor will Oscar be (100%).
Cold Weather: We are mostly against (67%) but unified in it not being an Oscar contender (100%).
Dressed: Another split decision against (67%) and unification against Oscar (100%).
The Other Woman: Finally a movie we will watch even if only on DVD (100%), but we don’t think Oscar will take notice (100%).
Waiting for Forever: More ambivalence (100%) in both directions (100%).

The Single White Female stalker motif isn’t that fresh anymore and while I do love the occasional horror film, this one doesn’t look that good.

Thoughts

Looks like a low wattage suspense film.

Thoughts

Looks like another horrible horror film.

If I had the time or the inclination, I’d be a spelunker. I love caves. This looks to have some amazing cinematography, but I can’t really see myself watching it at the theater.

Thoughts

Looks like another 3-D film where the gimmicks outweigh the thrills.

Thoughts

Looks like another horrible action film.

The premise doesn’t sound too bad, but with a lack of notable known quantities behind and in front of the camera, I am not so sure it will be that great.

Thoughts

I love mystery and suspense films with some meat on their bones, but this one doesn’t look like it has any.

Thoughts

Looks like another horrible indie film.

I don’t even watch the fashion-themed reality shows, so this just isn’t my cuppa.

Thoughts

Looks like it could be inspirational, but I’m in no rush to see it.

Thoughts

Looks like another horrible documentary film.

Don Roos’ The Opposite of Sex was a fantastic film. If he can accomplish the same with the always-interesting Natalie Portman, this could be good. Still, I’ll wait until DVD to catch it.

Thoughts

Don Roos is an interesting director and Natalie Portman is the star of the moment, but I’ll wait for it on DVD.

Thoughts

The team behind this is strong enough that this could be an interesting rental.

It just doesn’t look that appealing.

Thoughts

Looks like it could be a modern version of Holiday, but I’ll stick with Hepburn and Grant.

Thoughts

Looks like another horrible romantic comedy.
