Oscar’s rejects find a home in December as The Way Back and The Company Men, both once strong contenders for Oscars, failed to materialize with any substantial buzz. Only The Way Back still has a shot at a couple of nods. With them, we have a number of other films that are getting appropriately dumped in January. Here are our thoughts.

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

No Strings Attached: There’s little hope finding any of us in the theaters for this one (100%), nor do we expect Oscar voters to go (100%).
The Way Back: We’re all likely to see it, just not all in the theaters (100%). We also agree that this is still a minor Oscar contender (100%).
The Company Men: Another film we’re likely to see, this time with more votes towards seeing in the theater (100%), but it’s not so fortunate with Oscar consideration (100%).
Evangelion 2.0: None of us are interested (100%) nor do we think Oscar will be (100%).
The Housemaid: Seeing it on DVD seems to be the agreement (67%), but Oscar just isn’t in the cards (100%).

I don’t find Ashton Kutcher that appealing even with Natalie Portman in the film, so I’ll have to say no.

Thoughts

Looks like a typical dumped in January romcom.

Thoughts

This looks just horrible.

I love the concept and the cast, but since it’s not in the running this year and I have very little time, I’ll have to wait until DVD.

Thoughts

I’m in no rush to this but will probably catch eventually on either DVD or Cable TV.

Thoughts

This one-time major Oscar contender has fallen by the wayside, but still looks pretty good.

Another film that will have to wait despite an appealing cast.

Thoughts

This film had minor Oscar buzz which quickly evaporated, but the trailer makes it look worthwhile.

Thoughts

I love John Wells’ television work, and he has assembled a great cast here.

More anime featuring stories I don’t care about. Next.

Thoughts

I have no interest in seeing a sequel to a film I never heard of in the first place.

Thoughts

This is not my cup of tea at all.

The film has promise, but I’m not certain if I want to see it.

Thoughts

Another one I’ll probably get around to on DVD or Cable TV at some point, but not right now.

Thoughts

This could be a great late night rental.
