Looking at the Weekend: January 28-30, 2011

We have a pair of new releases, one Oscar nominee in limited release and three other limited releases.

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

The Mechanic: We aren’t watching (67%) and it’s not an Oscar contender (100%).
The Rite: Another no-go (67%) and a no-show (100%).
Biutiful: We are split evenly on when or where to see it (33%) and agree it’s an Oscar contender (of course it is, it’s a nominee, but we would have said that before the nominations anyway)
From Prada to Nada: Nada on both counts (100%/100%).
Ip Man 2: No fan are we of martial arts sequels (100%) and the Academy won’t care either (100%).
Kaboom: We are leaning towards watching it (67%) but are certain Oscar won’t respond (100%).
