There are three films releasing this weekend that all have the potential to be the top release. While it’s likely going to be Pixar’s Elio, 28 Years Later is the long-awaited third film in Danny Boyle’s zombie series, which could provide surprising competition for the animated original. Also in the hunt is Bride Hard, which hopes to be the new Bridesmaids in terms of its box office success. We’ll see whether any of them can stop Elio.

28 Years Later
Wesley Lovell: Danny Boyle’s first two zombie films are among the best. This third one has a lot of potential.
Pete Patrick: I don’t usually go for post-apocalyptic sequels but this one has pedigree so it may surprise me.
Thomas La Tourrette: I need to see the original films before I catch this sequel, but it looks intriguing.
Bride Hard
Wesley Lovell: While there is a better than average chance this is a dud, it has a strong cast and looks like it could be fun.
Pete Patrick: The trailer was a turn-off.
Thomas La Tourrette: It looks fairly lame, but might prove funnier than the trailer was.
Elio
Wesley Lovell: While it seems a bit familiar compared to Pixar’s prior output, it’s nice to see an original from them.
Pete Patrick: New Pixar film looks like a charmer.
Thomas La Tourrette: Disney and Pixar usually turn out films worth seeing, though I do not think this will be as good as some of their earlier work.

The Limited Slate
Wesley Lovell: It’s a strange week when the wide releases look better than the limiteds.
Pete Patrick: The trailer for Everything’s Going to Be Great looks good but the filmmakers have an uneven track record so I’m going to say maybe. The other two are glorified documentaries that may be good but appear to be too clinical to sustain dramatic interest, so again maybe.
Thomas La Tourrette: The Alzheimer’s drama Familiar Touch looks to be the best of the bunch. Happyend has decent reviews but the trailer left me unsure. I am very dubious about Everything.
