The Super Mario Bros. Movie will finally fall from the top spot of the box office with the release of the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie. It should do well enough to come close or exceed a $100 million opening weekend, possibly even doubling that. The only other confirmed wide release, Love Again, isn’t likely to even make a dent in the top 10.

OTHER RELEASES

We are only looking at films that have had trailers released on Rotten Tomatoes’ trailer YouTube Channels. Below are some other films that are releasing this weekend that we haven’t considered.

Anxious Nation (Limited)
Devilreaux (Limited)
Double Life (Limited)
One Ranger (Limited)
Queens of the Qing Dynasty (Limited)
Slava Ukraini (Limited)
Unrest (Limited)

WIDE RELEASES

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

LOVE AGAIN

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

Wesley Lovell: Perhaps this will be the last one, at least hopefully that involves Chris Pratt. He’s the sole reason I’m not terribly excited about this film.

Peter J. Patrick: The first one was good, the second one wasn’t, I have no desire to see the third one.

Thomas La Tourrette: The critics are very mixed on this one, but I have enjoyed the series enough that I know I will go see it in the theater.

Love Again

Wesley Lovell: It looks fairly conventional, which isn’t going to pull me to the theater.

Peter J. Patrick: Nothing I’d rush out to see, but something I might be okay with once it hits streaming.

Thomas La Tourrette: It has a cute idea with one person getting texts sent to her dead lover’s phone. Not sure it will work, but it has potential.

LIMITED RELEASES

CHILE ’76

WHAT’S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: Chile ’76 has some potential, but I don’t know that What’s Love does.

Peter J. Patrick: I’ll watch anything with Emma Thompson in it once so maybe for What’s Love Got to Do with It? but Chile ’76 looks incredibly dull.

Thomas La Tourrette: Chile ’76 looks to be a serious thriller about the Pinochet regime and I was intrigued by the trailer. What’s Loveโ€ฆ looks like a typical romcom but with some added bits to make it unusual. Still it looks like fun fluff.
