Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

Due Date: It’s a split decision with half refusing to watch it. We agree, however, that it’s not an Oscar contender.
For Colored Girls: While none are completely opposed to watching it, we are mostly undecided (50%). We are also evenly split on whether it’s an Oscar contender.
Megamind: We aren’t interested (75%) and it’s not likely to contend (75%).
127 Hours: We are all very likely to see this must see (75%) and we are unified that this is a major contender (100%).
Client 9: We’re split on seeing the film (50%) but agreed it’s a contender for Documentary Feature (100%).
Fair Game: We are not certain whether to see it or not (50%), but still feel it’s a minor contender (100%).
Guy and Madeline on a Park Bench: We’re either undecided or committed against seeing it (50%) but we know an Oscar non-starter when we see it.

Thoughts

Zach Galifianakis is a no-go for me. I don’t find him funny and this looks like an idiotic road trip film.

Thoughts

I’m not in any hurry to see another film from the director of The Hangover.

Thoughts

A comedy that looks very hit or miss, but with two actors I like a lot it could be a fun film.

Thoughts

I must admit, I’ve liked all of Todd Phillips’ comedies (even Road Trip and Old School) and this looks even funnier than “The Hangover” to me. The presence of Robert Downey, Jr. is also a big plus.

I have to say this looks like it might not be too bad of a film. With such talented thespians involved, it could be quite good. But it’s a Tyler Perry film, so the chance of it actually being good is a toss up.

Thoughts

The Broadway play was mostly actors reciting poetry. From what I can tell, the film opens it up a little, but not enough to make it a viable drama.

Thoughts

Tyler Perry has never broken into the mainstream awards, but this adaptation of a classic, Tony Award winning play could be the one to break him through.

Thoughts

Another year, another Tyler Perry movie. Another movie I won’t ever see.

Thoughts

The comedy looks stale, the concept a bit meandering. Add in Will Farrell and it’s not a film of interest for me.

Thoughts

Looks like a goofy cartoon movie.

Thoughts

This looks painful.

Thoughts

It will undoubtedly be compared to “Despicable Me,” and probably not favorably. I’ll check it out on Blu-ray, but am in no rush to see it. It should do well at the box-office, though.

‘Tis the season for Oscar contenders. I can’t say it looks too bad and James Franco is an interesting actor. But Danny Boyle’s hit-or-miss for me, so while I’m likely to see it, I’m not certain how I’ll feel about it.

Thoughts

Advance word points this as one of the year’s best films. Director Danny Boyle won an Oscar last time out and star James Franco is due.

Thoughts

Danny Boyle’s first film since winning the Oscar has a great source story, and looks to be a major threat this winter.

Thoughts

It’s a fascinating story from a talented filmmaking team that I’m very interested in seeing. I expect it to do well at the Oscars. James Franco could very well be this year’s Best Actor winner.

Thoughts

It looks like a fairly interesting documentary with plenty of intriguing information, but I’m not a fan of documentaries.

Thoughts

The rise and fall of Eliot Spitzer was played out in our living rooms. Now he’s on the rise again with his CNN program at 8 P.M. Eastern. Why pay money to see all this rehashed now?

Thoughts

A great documentarian tackles a fascinating, modern political tale.

Thoughts

Never count out 2-time Oscar nominee (and 1-time winner) Alex Gibney to make a great topical documentary.

Thoughts

It could still be an Oscar contender, but critics haven’t come out in full force for it, so it may not be that contentious. The film looks interesting enough to be modestly entertaining.

Thoughts

The Valerie Palme story is an intriguing one, but advance word is that the film is a bit on the dull side.

Thoughts

A great cast and crew tackle another fascinating, modern political tale, but the one-time major contender hasn’t gotten the greatest buzz.

Thoughts

It might be okay. Naomi Watts is still a Best Actress contender, but she and the film have slipped.

Thoughts

With a touch of originality, indie flicks can be good, but I’m not so sure about this one.

Thoughts

Independent musical drama looks to be something different, might be interesting.

Thoughts

I have no idea what to make of this film.

Thoughts

I don’t know anything about it, and don’t really care to.
