Five films, at the time of this writing, were going to try to release wide. I suspect only one will and that’s Five Nights at Freddy’s, a video adaptation that hopes to lure in fans of the game who may have already grown out of it. I suspect it will struggle to open well and will probably fall to the third weekend of Taylor Swift.

OTHER RELEASES

We are only looking at films that have had trailers released on Rotten Tomatoes’ trailer YouTube Channels. Below are some other films that are releasing this weekend that we haven’t considered.

After Death (Wide)
Sight (Wide)
Deep Rising (Limited)
June Zero (Limited)
The Killer (Limited)
Klimt and the Kiss (Limited)
Miracle in East Texas (Limited)
Subject (Limited)
Thunder (Limited)

WIDE RELEASES

FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S

FREELANCE

INSPECTOR SUN

Five Nights at Freddy’s

Wesley Lovell: While I’m not too excited about this, I like Josh Hutcherson, so that alone might make this worth seeing.

Peter J. Patrick: Looks like one of better contemporary horror films.

Thomas La Tourrette: A suitably disturbing trailer makes a case for the movie, but it is just not my kind of movie.

Freelance

Wesley Lovell: It looks dumb, but could be fun, but also dumb.

Peter J. Patrick: Doesn’t look particularly interesting.

Thomas La Tourrette: I doubt I will see this, though the trailer did have a little humor, just not enough. Somehow a romantic comedy set during a coup seems an odd choice.

Inspector Sun

Wesley Lovell: Not a fan of spiders in general and this looks utterly unexciting.

Peter J. Patrick: Seems mildly amusing at best.

Thomas La Tourrette: This looks like a bad animated film and the trailer did little to make me interested in it.

LIMITED RELEASES

FINGERNAILS

THE HOLDOVERS

SUITABLE FLESH

The Limited Slate

Wesley Lovell: Just like with this week’s wide releases, the limiteds are a mixed bag from definites to not likelies.

Peter J. Patrick: I can’t wait to see The Holdovers. I might give Fingernails a chance, but Suitable Flesh doesn’t appeal to me at all.

Thomas La Tourrette: The Holdovers will likely be a major Oscar contender, so it is one to see. I just wish the trailer had made me want to see it. Fingernails does show some promise, so that is one I might go see.
