We have a rather brief week this time with only four new limited releases and one new wide one: Paranormal Activity 2. The four new limiteds are Inhale, Kalamity, Rising Stars and The Taqwacores.
Consensus
Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.
Paranormal Activity 2: We are not interested in watching it (100%) and we’re also unified against Oscar consideration (100%). Inhale: A split decision between not seeing, undecided and seeing, but we agree it doesn’t have Oscar hopes (100%). Kalamity: Mostly we have no desire to see the film (67%) and Oscar is right out (100%). Rising Stars: We don’t want to see it (100%), nor will Oscar voters (100%). The Taqwacores: Another evenly-split decision between indecision and opposing views of interest. Yet, we are also agreed it has no Oscar prospects (100%).
I think there’s potential here. Not only does it look faintly humorous, it has the appeal of speaking on an oft-ignored subject, the loneliness of being an outcast in a country that holds too much animosity towards your faith.
Thoughts
Exploration of the Muslim punk scene in Buffalo seems well-intentioned if a bit too noisy.
Thoughts
A real interesting premise that could pay off pretty big.
I may well. I even voted in the Demand It campaign to get it to my city, but I never got to the theater to see it and it’s not a top priority on DVD, so I may not know for some time.
Wes, if you liked The Blair Witch Project and as much as you like horror films that leave things to the viewer’s imagination, you will definitely like Paranormal Activity.
