Only one new wide release this week and six new limited release films. See our thoughts below. This week’s consensus is based only on three contributors’ opinions.

Consensus

Below is a list of what we have come to a general consensus on. The number in parens represents the percentage of our contributors who agree with the statement.

Saw 3D: It’s not a film for non-fans (67%), but even fans can agree it’s not an Oscar film (100%).
The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest: A three-way-split decision regarding watching it, but agreed on no Oscar competition (100%).
Inspector Bellamy: Based on name recognition, this is a DVD rental (67%), but Oscar isn’t going to buy it (100%).
Monsters: Mostly on the side of not going to see it (67%) but unified against its Oscar capabilities (100%).
Strange Powers: No one here wants to see it (100%) and no one thinks Oscar will either (100%).
Welcome to the Rileys: Near agreement on not seeing it (67%), but we completely agree that Oscar won’t be interested (100%).
Wild Target: Mostly undecided but leaning towards watching it (67%); however, it’s not Oscar’s cup of tea (100%).

Thoughts

I’ve seen the others and I enjoy the general concept even if the films are lurid, derivative and lacking in classicism.

Thoughts

Saw the first two Saw films – enough is enough.

Thoughts

A series of films I never checked out, so I don’t intend to go to this one.

Thoughts

I haven’t seen the original and wasn’t particularly enticed by its preview, so seeing the third film of the series isn’t really at the top of my priority list.

Thoughts

I saw the first film in the Swedish Millennium trilogy. Not without interest, but it was a tough sit-through for me.

Thoughts

A series I want to catch up with, just haven’t yet.

Thoughts

The French police procedural holds some interest for me, but I don’t see much in this trailer that makes me want to see it.

Thoughts

Claude Chabrol’s last film is a must-see, but not necessarily in the theater.

Thoughts

Claude Chabrol was a legendary filmmaker, and this looks like an intriguing film.

Thoughts

I’ve been burned on monster movies before and although some aspects of the trailer are interesting, I’m not particularly interested in this.

Thoughts

This is another sci-fi film from another unknown director with another unknown cast.

Thoughts

“This year’s District 9” doesn’t look too original, but could be a neat little film.

Thoughts

Looks modestly humorous, but it isn’t my cup of tea.

Thoughts

The film is subtitled “Stephen Merritt and the Magnetic Fields”. I’ve never heard of Stephen Merritt or his Magnetic Fields and have no idea why he is referred to as the “Cole Porter of his generation” nor do I care to find out.

Thoughts

Doesn’t look like the most fascinating of documentaries.

Thoughts

Kristen Stewart looks terrible and the film not much better.

Thoughts

Quirky family drama with decent cast but written and directed by people with no track record.

Thoughts

The premise looks unoriginal, but it is nice to see James Gandolfini get a meaty role like this, which could be enough to make it worthwhile.

Thoughts

It looks cute and fun, but serious and entertaining are questionable. So, I’ll probably pass it, but if the opportunity arises, I might.

Thoughts

British comedy with great cast, may be worth a look.

Thoughts

This looks just out there enough to make it an intriguing rental down the road.
