The Card Counter shifted to a limited release, which is probably for the best, which leaves three wide releases to compete against the second weekend of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Malignant probably has the best chance even though horror hasn’t done incredibly well since the pandemic began. Queenpins feels like one of those comedies that wants to be a break-out success, but gets forgotten by Halloween.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): I have no interest in anything Paul Schrader does anymore. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Oscar Isaac finally seems on target to receive his first Oscar nomination; Paul Schrader his second. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The reviews make it sound good, but the trailer tries to be more enigmatic than engaging and it did not catch my interest.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): It could be somewhat inventive, but it also looks like more of the same. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks like another boring, unimaginative horror film. Thomas LaTourette (TL): Another horror film, and I am just not that into them.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks like a dumb comedy, which could be fun. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Loud, obnoxious trailer is a total turn-off for me. Thomas LaTourette (TL): I am dubious, but there is enough of a story and a good cast to make this possibly look good.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): The trailer doesn’t promise much of worth. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Romantic comedy looks more than a little lame. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The trailer isn’t bad, but it feels like it covers ground done in other films where two friends try to be friends with benefits yet end up caring about each other.

Individual Commentary:
Wesley Lovell (WL): It looks surprisingly fresh. Peter J. Patrick (PP): Looks charming but claustrophobic. Thomas LaTourette (TL): The reviews are good and it perhaps makes the best use of zoom that I’ve seen, but I didn’t totally buy into the trailer.
