Every film critic owes it to himself and his readers to constantly watch movies. I’ve seen a lot, but compared to some others I know, it’s a mere drop in the bucket. As you found out during my new Monday feature The Morning After, I get three Netflix DVDs each weekend if possible. Today, I’m announcing a second new feature that allows you to influence my viewing priorities.
Each week, I’m going to open a call for my readers to suggest movies for me to stick into the top spot of my Netflix queue. What this means is that when I receive my next batch, the movie you select an vote on will be watched and my thoughts shared in The Morning After.
Everyone gets to make one main suggestion and one alternate each week. The following week, all suggestions will be compiled and voted on by everyone. The film with the most votes wins. Voting will take place over the weekend and the winner placed into my queue on Monday. The film will be the first of the three I watch over the weekend.
So, each week there will be an opportunity to suggest films. And each week everyone will be voting on one film to put into the queue.
Any film in the Netflix queue is eligible, however, I reserve the right to deny specific submissions (which is why I ask you to submit an alternate just in case) should I find them offensive or not in spirit of this feature. Also, if you submit a film I’ve already seen, I will try to let you know immediately.
What is the Spirit of this feature? It’s an effort to get films that I may not have seen but you think are vital for every film critic or film enthusiast to consider. This can also act as a recommendation towards others who participate and may want to consider those suggestions as well.
Now, for those of you without Netflix accounts, you do not have to be a member to view their vast library of releases. You can visit Netflix here.
I encourage everyone to share the experience with me and put the recommended film in your queue. Then we can all have a great discussion the next week.
Keep in mind that because of the time it will take to get this feature rolling, the first round of suggestions begins today, July 1. The first vote will take place July 8 (along with another round of suggestions) and conclude on July 12. The first weekend I will be able to review the first suggestion will be July 16-18.
So, let’s get started. What film do you wish me to watch?
