   I didn’t mean to set her up as a possible winner (especially with some strong competition from overdue actresses), but a nomination is a strong possibility.

   I doubt Paltrow is going to be a contender for the win, but she may well get a nomination.

   I doubt the Academy is in any rush to give Gwyneth Paltrow a second Oscar, especially in such a crowded year.

   I just kind of feel that Oscar prognosticators seem to love Kristen Scott Thomas and over blow her chances over and over again. She has one nomination, 15 years ago, for a film in which she was very much swept in with a powerhouse film. Had the Academy not cared about The English Patient, does anyone think she really would have been nominated, especially in the lead category? Every few years she makes a French film that people say will be her return, but she is a Hollywood outsider who works mostly in a foreign language. It will take a real powerhouse to bring her back.

   Great article as always, but let me clarify my thoughts on Kristin Scott Thomas. I think every time she turns in a French-language dramatic performance there’s going to be talk about her, but I doubt she’ll be nominated myself. She is a very long shot nominee, but the film itself might well be a nominee for Foreign Language Film. A lot depends on whether it’s submitted by France. The same for foreign lingo pic Carlos, the trailer for which came out this week as well.
