The Online Film & Television Association presented their 18th awards this year, giving Best Picture and a large number of top tier categories (including three acting prizes) to 12 Years a Slave. Gravity topped 12 Years a Slave‘s 7 awards with 9, including Best Director for Alfonso Cuaron. Together, the two films claimed 16 awards, preventing any other film from receiving more than two awards each.

With regards to the Hall of Famed selections, solid picks all around. This year I noticed a skew towards more contemporary films and individuals. While this is to be expected as older choices start to exhaust with time, I was hoping for George Stevens and/or Robert Wise to get in as producers/directors. (Wise is already in for editing, but I think he is even more worthy for those other disciplines. I can’t knock the choices, as I gave them very high votes. Perhaps Tarantino is still a little young, except there’s no denying he’s the real deal and its been 22 years since Reservoir Dogs.

It is easy to overlook the fact that many contemporary performers and crew have been working significantly longer than those in the classic era. Plus, there are those whose star power exceed their short careers – like James Dean.

  Dean was no slouch as an actor, though. Just look at Giant and Rebel Without a Cause.
