It’s like The Hurt Locker all over again, by now The Artist seems as inevitable as a Sunday (at the Oscars). There were no major surprises, though a handful of Oscar nominees did lose this year, but for the most part, this could be considered the Academy Awards, Part 1. Matter of fact, if I didn’t know these were the Spirit Awards, I might look at the main category winner list and think these were actually the Oscar winners. In the last five years, the best the Spirit Awards have ever done aligning with the Oscars was three winners in 2006. However, I see at least five of these carrying over, with two or three more slight possibilities.
