The Golden Globes are typically the biggest fame seekers in Hollywood. But for once, they have no truly embarrassing choices, though Bill Murray comes close. Some quick observations: David O. Russell did not get nominated for Silver Linings Playbook nor did Tom Hooper for Les Misérables. If this pattern holds at the DGA awards, both films will go down in defeat at the Oscars. Amour was seen, but neither of its stars nominated despite the expanded field. Ann Dowd’s chances are likely dead without Golden Globe or SAG support. Django Unchained rebounded with these announcements, with two acting nominations and Best Picture and Director citations. Life of Pi is hanging on extremely well and Les Misérables isn’t receiving near the attention it could have from a group like this.
