I hope it is. Oscar shouldn’t nominate it just because it made a bunch of money. It’s one of the worst movies I saw in 2009, if not the worst, in my opinion. People talk about racist movies, but Transformers 2 was just disgustingly racist. Granted, nominating it for Sound wouldn’t validate such things, but…
I like how you made the acronym for “Revenge of the Fallen” is the same as “Rolling on the Floor Laughing” – ROTFL 🙂
And I haven’t seen Jennifer’s Body, or Old Dogs (Berardinelli’s pick for worst of 2009) or many of the bad films of 2009, so I can’t judge them. But it would take a LOT to beat ‘ROTFL’ in pure shittiness.
Well, the first “Transformers” was nominated for 3 Oscars and the second one grossed $400 million domestically. If ROTFL is completely shut-out, it will be the highest grossing picture by far to not be nominated for an Oscar.
And if Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen gets nominated for any Oscars at all, it’ll be the saddest day since Norbit was nominated… “Academy Award-nominated film, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” ..Ugh.
Well, one thing the Oscar likes is big sound, but they also don’t like to mirror the CAS. I fully expect Transformers to be the one from this line up to get ditched as I can’t imagine them ignoring any of the other four.
In their 17 year history, they’ve aligned with the Oscar list only twice (2000 & 2003). They freely jump between three and four carried through with their worst year in 1999 when the mimicked only two choices.
Last year they didn’t get Oscar nominees Benjamin Button or Wanted, yet nominated popular films Iron Man and Quantum of Solace.
I actually saw an article about the sound in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. I didn’t take the article seriously, but I guess perhaps I should have?
“I have like 2,000 people — through their artistry — making my dreams a film,” Bay said. “The artistry of this sound group is just amazing. I love, love sound. It’s 45-50% of the movies.”
