There aren’t a lot of huge surprises, but District 9 making the Screenplay cut is certainly the best one for me. I’m rather excited. I’d love for the film to be doing better, but sci-fi has rarely ever been adequately recognized by the Academy and aside from horror, is the most denigrated and ignored of the genres.
I find it unfortunate that District 9 isn’t getting more attention. I hope Oscar doesn’t follow suit. And I hope that because it’s expanded to 10 nominees, District 9, which was critically and commercially successful, makes the cut. It certainly deserves it.
As for the GG nominees, I don’t think any of them are particularly surprising. Except maybe Sandra Bullock in The Proposal. But upon second thought, knowing the Globes, that’s really not a huge surprise.
