There’s a first time for everything. I don’t see Inception winning more than four awards. Maybe Art Direction will be one it doesn’t win – I don’t know, I think there are as many Academy voters who dislike The King’s Speech as there are those who like it so that film winning more than Best Actor is possibly less likely than Inception losing for Visual Effects, but who really knows? No one.

  But “Alice in Wonderland”? The FX in that are not only ugly, but so been-there-done-that. “Inception” is a very visually impressive picture, probably the most visually impressive film of the Best Picture lineup, and one of the keys to its success is its visual effects, which were not only cool, but groundbreaking.

    There you have an advantage over me as I have not seen, nor do I intend to see, Tim Burton’s version of Alice in Wonderland.

There is no way that “Alice in Wonderland” wins Best Visual Effects. Its chances for winning over “Inception” are about as realistic as “District 9″‘s were for beating “Avatar” last year.

  Besides, historically, every time a movie that was nominated for both Visual Effects and Best Picture, the Best Picture nominee usually wins. No Best Picture nominations for Alice In Wonderland, Harry Potter, Hereafter or Iron Man 2, so the most like picture will win and that’s Alice in Wonderland.

    You mean Inception? Alice in Wonderland, as you said, isn’t nominated for Best Picture.
