It’s been a long and emotionally grueling Oscar season. We lost a dear friend in Oscar expert Damien Bona and had a frustrating three month period where anything could happen and then didn’t as the same old dominoes fell into place as they always have. The best chance for suspense comes in below-the-line categories with only Best Actress and Best Original Screenplay among the top categories to give us any possible jolt.

Our first coverage began almost a year ago with our first predictions in the lofty month of May. And looking back then, some interesting things emerge. Tripp was the only one who saw The Artist as a Best Picture nominee. Other Best Picture nominees we forecast: The Descendants (unanimous), Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (surprisingly only Tripp and I), Hugo (Wes before his departure), Moneyball (Tripp), The Tree of Life and War Horse (unanimous each). To learn more about what we saw then versus now, here’s a link to that first set of predictions along with all of our major updates prior to Precursor Season:

84th Predictions: August
84th Predictions: September
84th Predictions: November

Then the precursors hit and certain rationales departed and others took their place including the presumptive frontrunner status of The Artist. There were other surprises along the way: Jean Dujardin’s momentum didn’t develop until his Screen Actors Guild win for instance. But it was an interesting time nonetheless. We made two more predictions prior to the nominations which I have listed here. One is post-precursor and one is the full slate pre-nominations.

84th Predictions: January
84th Predictions: Final

Once the nominations were announced, we had an interesting time choosing winners and then making updates along the way. Here are links to our first and final predictions for this year. The last one also gives you links to all of our The Rundown articles where we tackle each category singly (or doubly in certain cases).

84th Winner Predictions: First
84th Winner Predictions: Final

Nothing is set in stone until the envelopes are opened this evening live on ABC, so if you’re still trying to decide who and what will win, here are a couple of links that might help. And I’ll be posting the winners live as they are announced, so stay tuned for the deluge of postings this evening. And remember, it’s all fun and games until someone loses an Oscar…then they’re back to square one for next year…even winning will cause some to come back (I’m looking at you, Harvey Weinstein).

And there are plenty of other prediction and coverage articles from the last three months on my site, so have a look around to remind you of where we came from and where we might be going.
